TRUST Through Healthy Confrontation

As leaders it is important that we build TRUST & resilience through healthy confrontation in a safe psychological space.

Trust and resilience are two important ingredients when it comes to positive and successful team dynamics. Trust is the glue and resilience is the pliability of the collective.

Trust is confidence in the honesty or integrity of a person or thing, and/or having confidence, faith or hope in someone or something.

Resilience is our ability to adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors.

To build trust and resilience we need to create an environment that fosters healthy confrontation where people or groups with opposing ideas or opinions are free to express without the fear of retaliation or negative consequences. This is achieved through creating a safe psychological safety where the shared belief in the team is that it is safe for interpersonal risk taking, and team members feel accepted and respected.

in 2018 Google released their research findings on the five keys to a successful Google team. They found that the highest-performing teams have one thing in common: psychological safety, the belief that you won’t be punished when you make a mistake.

To achieve psychological safety, we need to create a space that allows for moderate risk-taking, speaking your mind, creativity, and sticking your neck out without fear of having it cut off. The results are higher levels of engagement, increased motivation, effective problem solving, enhanced learning and better performance.

Healthy confrontation done effectively is a true asset to your business or team. To create an atmosphere of healthy confrontation build rapport, be timely with confronting, focus on the issue rather than the person, aim to find a resolution and always follow up after the conversation.

It’s time for your to build the trust and resilience need in your workplace to stimulate innovation and creativity.

Own Your OWN VULNERABILITY

Own Your OWN Vulnerability – Have the courage to be uncomfortable for growth. A comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there.

Successful people have the unique ability to perform under high levels of pressure. Pressure comes from internal and external expectations, and as the stakes rise, fear grows. Being able to deal with fear and the uncomfortable feelings that are associated, you have to be better prepared to control your state of mind.

Why do we feel uncomfortable? That uncomfortable feeling comes from going into a place where you have never been before. You are making a change and disrupting the way your mind and body are used to doing something. It might be doing something for the first time or doing something you haven’t done for a while. It could be doing something you are used to, but the conditions or parameters have changed.

“If you want something in life that you have never had, you will have to do something that you have never done.

To have the courage change, you also must have a sense of vulnerability. On the other side of the coin you must also have courage to be vulnerable. It is important that you have a strong sense of purpose and be prepared for being uncomfortable.

This episode will also look at being prepared to push the boundaries, surround yourself with a supportive team, understand how you manage being uncomfortable, developing and uncomfortable mindset and what rituals and behaviors can you create, so that each day you feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable.

active CEO Podcast OWN Your OWN Gratitude

Own Your OWN GRATITUDE

During times of unease or uncertainty it is easy to go insular and forget about the people around you. It is important to own your own gratitude, both externally and internally.

We need to OWN that GRATITUDE. What is it that we appreciate about ourselves? What is it that we thank ourselves for doing? What are we grateful for every single day?

Because it’s important to be kind to ourselves, and it’s important, and even more important, to be kind to other people.

Own Your OWN GRATITUDE

Here are three ways that you can provide that GRATITUDE to people around you and for yourself.

1. Send a message to at least one person per day to say thank you and show your appreciation.

2. Write down one thing you did well today and why?

3. Note one thing you can do tomorrow that will make someone feel happier?

Create A Ripple Effect With PURPOSE – Have you become too focused on yourself and you don’t feel fulfilled. Focus on something bigger than just yourself. Determine what your companies or your own real purpose is in life. Your why or your companies why? What work can you do to serve that purpose and leave a positive mark or dent on the world? 3 questions to ask yourself – 1. What makes you come alive? 2. What are your innate strengths? 3. Where do you add greatest value? NOW IF YOU ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO IDENTIFY YOUR WHY here are 3 more questions to ask yourself: 1. What do people come to ask for help on and thank you for? 2. What would do you love doing that you would do everyday without a paycheck? 3. If you found out that you only had one year left, what would you imagine yourself doing? Its time for you to do some self reflection and find clarity on your why!
