Be Your OWN CEO

By Craig Johns

Be Your Own CEO – create your own high performance habits, boundaries & influence.

Most people would relate CEO to a chief executive officer being the highest-ranking person in a company or other institution, ultimately responsible for taking managerial decisions. How ever we have redefined CEO in terms of you and your energy.

Wouldn’t it be great to experience greater levels of energy more often in your life? … Do you know we are all CEO’s … the chief energy officer of our live’s? … And think how that energy effect’s other people and the way you behave.

Be Your OWN CEO

Human effectiveness is ultimately a function of human energy. How will you mobilize, focus, inspire and sustain your energy? Do you nurture, transform and direct your own human energy?

Life is both a marathon and a sprint. There will be energy highs and lows in life, and the key is how you manage that. You need to develop the ability to harness and mobilise your energy on demand. This is a massive asset that you need to take full ownership of

You Are The CEO

Are you accountable for every action you take and its result? Do you make a conscious and intentional choice before considering your commitments? it is important to know and understand what you can really give 100% attention to.

Successful leaders say NO more than they say YES. Are you living proactively or reactively? Be more proactive and take greater charge of your life. Be proactive by design versus reactive by default. How are you being proactive in clearly mapping out your priorities and desires?

Do you understand the business of your life? Your success depends on your attention to your entire “human” company. Break down yourself into different divisions of your own “human” company and create your OWN CEO Audit & Plan.

It’s now time for you to Be Your OWN CEO!

Active CEO Performance Tip

People Support What They Create – How often do you come up with a great idea, share it with your team, they agree, but they quickly lose interest?People will support what they create. If they aren’t involved in the development of a project, strategy or even a hire, then there is very little emotional connection to it and less likely to find the motivation to make it happen. Here are 3 ways to get employee or stakeholder buy in:1. Involve your team early, during the creation of an idea, project or strategy. 2. Position the idea so that it feels like your team came up with it. 3. Invite the team to determine the best way to solve a problem and deliver the outcome.

Own Your OWN VULNERABILITY

Own Your OWN Vulnerability – Have the courage to be uncomfortable for growth. A comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there.

Successful people have the unique ability to perform under high levels of pressure. Pressure comes from internal and external expectations, and as the stakes rise, fear grows. Being able to deal with fear and the uncomfortable feelings that are associated, you have to be better prepared to control your state of mind.

Why do we feel uncomfortable? That uncomfortable feeling comes from going into a place where you have never been before. You are making a change and disrupting the way your mind and body are used to doing something. It might be doing something for the first time or doing something you haven’t done for a while. It could be doing something you are used to, but the conditions or parameters have changed.

“If you want something in life that you have never had, you will have to do something that you have never done.

To have the courage change, you also must have a sense of vulnerability. On the other side of the coin you must also have courage to be vulnerable. It is important that you have a strong sense of purpose and be prepared for being uncomfortable.

This episode will also look at being prepared to push the boundaries, surround yourself with a supportive team, understand how you manage being uncomfortable, developing and uncomfortable mindset and what rituals and behaviors can you create, so that each day you feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Build Your OWN TRIBE – who are the mentors, coaches & people in your proximity

The recent events have led to a lot of self reflection, you realise you need to upskill and upgrade, but you don’t feel like you  have the right people around you to make the change

We usually surround ourselves with two types of people. First the cheerleaders and like minded-people who give us comfort through telling us what we want to hear and two those who distract us with negativity and lack of hope.

It is important to surround ourselves with people who ask the thought provoking questions, keep us accountable and ensure we stay true to our mission.

  1. Identify and write down a list of every skill you want to upgrade

Own Your OWN GRATITUDE

During times of unease or uncertainty it is easy to go insular and forget about the people around you. It is important to own your own gratitude, both externally and internally.

We need to OWN that GRATITUDE. What is it that we appreciate about ourselves? What is it that we thank ourselves for doing? What are we grateful for every single day?

Because it’s important to be kind to ourselves, and it’s important, and even more important, to be kind to other people.

Own Your OWN GRATITUDE

Here are three ways that you can provide that GRATITUDE to people around you and for yourself.

1. Send a message to at least one person per day to say thank you and show your appreciation.

2. Write down one thing you did well today and why?

3. Note one thing you can do tomorrow that will make someone feel happier?

Active CEO Performance Tip

Create A Ripple Effect With PURPOSE – Have you become too focused on yourself and you don’t feel fulfilled. Focus on something bigger than just yourself. Determine what your companies or your own real purpose is in life. Your why or your companies why? What work can you do to serve that purpose and leave a positive mark or dent on the world? 3 questions to ask yourself – 1. What makes you come alive? 2. What are your innate strengths? 3. Where do you add greatest value? NOW IF YOU ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO IDENTIFY YOUR WHY here are 3 more questions to ask yourself: 1. What do people come to ask for help on and thank you for? 2. What would do you love doing that you would do everyday without a paycheck? 3. If you found out that you only had one year left, what would you imagine yourself doing? Its time for you to do some self reflection and find clarity on your why!

Tweets

You are in control of your own narrative. You get to write the story!

Many people are living someone else’s life or reality. On social media, everyone seems to have either an incredibly amazing or absolutely terrible life. Most of the time its an inauthentic life.

What is Your uniqueness, your unique self? We all have many amazing stories, things we can learn from, teach other people, and improve the way we react or behave in similar situations in the future.

You own your own stories, no one else has lived them and they are unique to you. Take full grasp and ownership of those unique stories.

What is your unique reality in the past, what story are you living now and what is your future vision?

Live Your OWN STORY

3 questions I would like you to ask yourself today:

  1. Am I living my own life or someone else’s rules?
  2. Are you content with your past or is it holding you back?
  3. How can I own the narrative, the story in my head, and be in control of my future story?

Active CEO Performance Tip

SINGLE-task Not Multi-task For Productivity – If you try and multi-task, our brains move too fast, we lose focus and take on too much. In fact, the brain can’t actually multi-task and what it actually does is task switching. If you are task switching to often or too quickly, it slows down your response time and prevents you from completing tasks quickly, if at all. Break down your work into single tasks and block your time accordingly to the highest priority tasks. First, write down all your tasks. Second, prioritise your tasks according to low, medium and high priority. Third, schedule time specifically for high priority tasks first, in your calendar. Then delegate all medium and low priorities where possible. Plan your day so that you can single task to get the best productivity and performance as a leader.
