Active CEO Performance Tip

People Support What They Create – How often do you come up with a great idea, share it with your team, they agree, but they quickly lose interest?People will support what they create. If they aren’t involved in the development of a project, strategy or even a hire, then there is very little emotional connection to it and less likely to find the motivation to make it happen. Here are 3 ways to get employee or stakeholder buy in:1. Involve your team early, during the creation of an idea, project or strategy. 2. Position the idea so that it feels like your team came up with it. 3. Invite the team to determine the best way to solve a problem and deliver the outcome.

Tweets

“Encourage everyone no matter where they are in their life. How can they improve their performance and the performance of those around them.” Scott Leggo talks about performance, on the active CEO Podcast.

“Step back from this, take a break, change the setting and come back to it. Sometimes you do have to step away or have outside perspective on it.” Scott Leggo an eye for detail, on the active CEO Podcast.

“Some of the biggest companies in the world are as big as they are and as successful as they are because they have managed to go through that process and distill it down to just a couple of core capabilities that they are truly going to differentiate on and excel at and are not going to get distracted by all these other little popups.” Discussing the importance of simplicity with Scott Leggo, on the active CEO Podcast.

Active CEO Performance Tip

SINGLE-task Not Multi-task For Productivity – If you try and multi-task, our brains move too fast, we lose focus and take on too much. In fact, the brain can’t actually multi-task and what it actually does is task switching. If you are task switching to often or too quickly, it slows down your response time and prevents you from completing tasks quickly, if at all. Break down your work into single tasks and block your time accordingly to the highest priority tasks. First, write down all your tasks. Second, prioritise your tasks according to low, medium and high priority. Third, schedule time specifically for high priority tasks first, in your calendar. Then delegate all medium and low priorities where possible. Plan your day so that you can single task to get the best productivity and performance as a leader.

Tweets

“It is hard to plan for things that might not happen and things that you just don’t like to think about, but have to do, whether you initiate or not.” Mike Nishi talks about crisis management, on the active CEO Podcast.

Own The CHOICES You MakeThe world is constantly challenging us through disruption, competing priorities and competition for our attention; therefore we must take control of our own story and influence. Your have to own your own life and realize that life is not a dress rehearsal. How much of your life do you really own and take full responsibility for? You are the sum total of your decisions. You own the choices that you make.

Leadership Overwhelm – As a leader, have you ever felt completely overcome in mind or emotion, where you feel a stress or combination of stressors are too big for you to manage? Start taking control of your overwhelm today.

Chris Tabish – Leadership Effectiveness With Comediology

Chris is a serious consultant known to have a comedy problem, who is transforming Fortune 500 companies and bringing fun and laughter to the corporate world. He is a comedian who tries not to fall over, may have painted the Golden Gate Bridge with a toothbrush, and is adamant that he wont leave us short-changed on the show today.

Our guest has a serious side as well, completing a BS in Accounting and MBA in Business Administration from The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business. • Always having a muscle to explore creativity.
  • Why he didn’t initially pursue being a comedian because it was too risky.
  • Shifting from a robot leadership style to someone who values employees.
  • Realising the value of humanity and creativity in leading people.
  • The WHY behind comediology.
  • Why he wasn’t being present and connecting with people.
  • Its not the content that connects with people it is the emotion.
  • In comedy you have to have a point of view or an opinion.
  • Start with something funny, that is humbling and lights up the room.
  • Why Robin Williams was so funny, but in a humble and sincere way.
  • Why he wouldn’t advocate to try and be specifically funny.
  • Leadership effectiveness with Comediology
  • Core essence is “finding your voice” and investing in your Creative 401k.
  • Comedy connects people, and people connect with people they like.
  • Let everything go and be completely in the moment.
  • How I can understand why I am here?

Active CEO Performance Tip

Chief Energy Officer – Do you know that we are all CEO’s. The Chief Energy Officer of our lives. And think how that energy affects other people and the way you behave. You all have control over your own energy. It is important that you manage your own energy first before influencing the energy of a room, a team, your family and any other person you interact with. As an influencer you can either create an environment of positive or negative energy. If you want to achieve success in a meeting, conversation, pitch, gathering or an event, then it is important that you create the energy state you desire, for both internal and external influence. Remember where focus goes energy flows. So make sure your intention is set for your desired outcome.

Active CEO Performance Tip

To Diet or Not To Diet – People are often looking for the quick fix, when it comes to food. Many people jump on the bandwagon of the thousands of fad-style, celebrity endorsed and marketing designed diets, which have no research into the long-term effects on the body, mind and soul. Science compared every diet and the winner is real food. The only diet that has been implemented and remains over a long period of time is that established 10,000’s of years ago. It is a predominantly plant-based diet with no processed foods and only included the occasional meat when they were quick enough to catch it. Those living by the sea would catch fish and seafood. Why would you incorporate the middle-person in the diet, so to speak, when you can go straight to the source an eat it. What do I mean by this? Land animals generally eat plant-based diets including fruit, vegetables and grains, which are the stable of all nutritious diets. So why do we need to eat red meat, when it is just the by-product of the plant based foods we need anyway? What diet should you eat?

Active CEO Performance Tip

Leaders Speak Last – How often do you go into a meeting and the lead person talks, talks and talks some more? The people in the room begin to switch off and when time comes to action following the meeting, no one really buys into it. High Performing Leaders always speak last. They may open the meeting and provide context, before allowing everyone else in the room to speak. They wait until right at the end of the meeting to wrap up what has been said and identify steps forward. This ensures everyone has an opportunity to speak, new ideas can surface and the team makes the decision. In a 30minute meeting, a high performing leader may only speak for 1-2 minutes.
